has anyone bought a convertible car seat?

I want to get one for my newborn but I feel like they all look too big for him. Have any of you mom's bought one and used it from birth? What was your experience/recommendation? I don't need it to click into a stroller...

Correction: regular seatbelt, not regular carseat. Most after 40 pounds you have to use it as a booster with the regular seatbelt. Get one that allows the 5 point harness up to 60 pounds or more.

A convertible carseat is a semi-permanent installation and doesn't click into the stroller. An infant seat is great because you don't have to carry the baby out to the car while supporting the head and it clicks right into the stroller. Around 6m or so you can move baby to a convertible seat, I have the Graco nautilus 65 and I still use it for my 5yr old. If you can only afford one seat, get the convertible. I recommend reading the weight limits in detail. The best ones have a forward facing 5 point harness weight limit of 60 pounds or more. Most are 40 pounds with the harness and then you can only use it as a booster with the regular carseat, which isn't recommended until age 6. My skinny son was 40 pounds at 3 years and I had to fork over more money for a new seat, grrr.

We bought a car seat (not a travel system) one that covers from birth to 4 years. It does seem quite big, but our car can take it and I kinda feel like our little one will be safer in the bigger seat. That could perhaps be mind over matter though. This is Ollie the octopus trying It out lol 😂

I think an infant seat would be a better investment! My step son was in his until he was a year old, so it's not like you only use it for a few months and then have to buy a new one. Definitely easier than taking baby in and out of the seat every time

I personally would feel uneasy about putting my newborn in such a big seat. They are already so tiny at first in the infant seats.  Plus the convenience of being able to remove a newborn seat to take a sleeping baby out of the car is huge. I wouldn't recommend it.

I had one for my last child (of course that was 8 years ago) I hated it, I felt it was to big and I had to either but her in a personal carrier strapped to me or go to a store that had to lil baby carriers built in the shopping cart.
