Women who get the flu during pregnancy double the risk of giving birth to a child with autism.
I came across a few articles about autism and how doctors have found that autistic children have different bacteria in their gut then normal developing children, and that these bacteria cause autism-like symptoms. Because of this, they think that the stomach is a big factor as to what causes autism in the first place. They found that they may be able to cure or alleviate these symptoms with a probiotic, or good bacteria, like the bacteria in yogurt. But what I'm really getting at is how they mentioned that women who get the flu during pregnancy double their chances of giving birth to a child with autism. That some how that bad bacteria, gets to your baby, and possibly your baby's growing intestines and stomach and cause problems in development throughout the pregnancy. So all in all, and it's up to your discretion, but I find it very important to get the flu shot. I got mine a few months before getting pregnant and I haven't been sick at all with any cold or flu, thank goodness, and I'm 20 weeks pregnant. If this is a concern for you or your worried about if you should or shouldn't get the flu shot during pregnancy, hopefully this helps give you some information. But also ask your doctor about this and their advice and see what they say!
