Don't let it get to you. The more you react to what these people say, the more it will encourage them to say it. They want to get a rise out of you so don't give them one. They will get bored in a couple weeks and start gossiping about someone else. And in a month no one will even remember it.

I got picked on a ton in school. I ended up holding grudges against them all throughout high school until my senior year, when several of my bullies asked me why I hated them. When I brought up the teasing they literally had no memory of saying those things and if they did, they told me they said it to be funny, not to hurt me. They apologized and asked to be friends.

It happened to me in college and in the army.

Can't let it get to you. Those people don't matter and people that will- won't blab about your life and will accept you in entirety.
