Yes. There is "active" suicidality and "passive" suicidality.

Active is when you want to kill yourself, you're planning it, ready to go through.

Passive is when you go around life like "I wish I was dead..." "I want to kill myself, I hate my life." But you aren't planning it out, as of that moment you have no plans of actually going through with it.

In either case, depression is usually present. Both forms should be taken seriously and treated.

I have suicidal thoughts, I did try once when I was 16. But at 20, I don't THINK I'd ever try again. I know there are too many people who would be affected by it. Plus it's more expenses for my family to have to worry about.... And my pets won't understand why I never came home.

So yes, you can have thoughts and never go through with them. But the thing is, if you have the thoughts, there's ALWAYS that chance that you might decide to go through with it.
