birth control help?

My periods are VERY painful and irregular, I've tried getting help from doctors many of times and they haven't changed my medication at all, and have told me the same
Thing over and over... (take painkillers 2-3 days before my period)... I went today and a nurse practitioner wants me to consider birth control. I have an appointment with the GYN in 3 weeks or so and I would like to know if it's worth it? I've heard many cons in birth control so I am worried, but I'm really tired of the pain I feel on my period! What should I do?!

Answer

A low dose could help with the irregularities of it and the pain. It helped me a lot when I was 13. I stopped using it just before I was 14 and didn't start a full blown form of bc till I was 17/18. I was on the pill. Now I'm on Depo. So I don't have a period anymore. But the pill helped when I was 13, and when I was on it again later on in my late teens.
