20 week ultrasound as first???

My OB doesn't do the first ultrasound until 20 weeks. Starting at 12 weeks we will hear the heartbeat every 4 weeks and as long as nothing is wrong with that, we will not have a first ultrasound until 20 weeks. It's so anxiety provoking to wait so long to see the baby. Has anyone else heard of this or in the same boat with their doc?

I think it's up to each doctor. My midwife also doesn't recommend doing them, she thinks it's unnecessary and women need to trust the process. I was too worried and wanted to look at the baby and got one done at 8w3d. I think whatever will give you peace of mind, it will be good for your baby too. Worrying isn't good for either of you IMHO.

Im in canada and i get my first at 8 weeks then again at 12 and 20.. thats so odd to me

In the UK we get our first at 12wks which is long enough a wait! Good luck with being patient. Not sure I could wait that long. I've got the first midwife appt on Monday at 8wks but I think it's just for paperwork.

I am waiting till 20wks for the first and hopefully only US. US and dopplers are not
100% safe and I don't want to play with my baby's growing cells just for my own pleasure. I am half way there and I am enjoying every day of this.

Thats odd usually the earliest scan is for best dating. That woud be super hard to wait for

Yep! Here in Canada it's pretty normal. That's how my first went.

literally just posted about the same thing!!!! they arent giving me an ultrasound until 18-20 weeks! im pissed

I had my first scan at 7 weeks, and only get one more at 20 weeks.

I live in pa so I'm not sure if it's a state to state thing or insurance but we only do a 20 week us too. With my first that was the only us we did in the 41 weeks 😳 you can do a 12 week screening if you opt to for genetic things ask your doc and they do an us for that

That sounds weird. I thought doctors want some kind of ultrasound in the first trimester to confirm your dating is accurate....
