I'm all for naming a child what you want to call them. Don't call her Elowen if you are going to call her Ellie all the time. Just name her Ellie then.

My daughter is Evelyn and we said we would be calling her evie. So my husbands family calls her that which annoys me now cause I only call her Evelyn. So I think you can "choose" in advance, but the reality may be very different
