"When he picks on you, that means he likes you!"
What do you think about this mentality we instill in young girls and boys as a society? I've heard so many times adults telling little girls and boys that if a child of the opposite sex picks on them, it means they like them.
Now, I don't really think it's a healthy way of thinking. That just shows children that it's okay to be mean to other people because it just means they have a crush on them. I'll add, I also think this plays a big role in many abusive relationships. I've heard a lot of people say things like, "well he loves me, that's why he hits me." (Again, not all are like this but teaching kids these things as a young age will make them believe abusive relationships are "normal")
