Telling my mum?

Question

Hello lovely ladies - I'm hoping someone here can give me advice...
I don't live in the same country as my parents (opposite end of world actually!) and therefore am debating when to tell them. It's still really early days (about 5 weeks we think) and although I really want to tell them, I know they will be excited but also sad that they're so far away. And I'm obviously very aware that things might still go wrong so maybe I should wait until further down the track? 
There's no right answer- just wondering about people's thoughts...

We live on the other side of the world from our parents too. I found out before 4 weeks so knew it was early days. I didn't want to tell them straight away as anything can happen so early.

We'd just booked flights home for Christmas (found out November). Once home I arranged a scan to confirm viability and heartbeat and was then able to tell my parents at exactly 8 weeks.

If we hadn't been flying home, I probably would have waited until 12 weeks to tell them over the phone, unless I was particularly unwell.

I'm also an ocean away but was lucky that I had already planned a visit a few weeks after I found out myself. I was able to tell her in person around 8 weeks, but if I hadn't been able to, I would have told her on the phone asap.

As a way to help her feel involved, I asked her to put together a baby "starter kit" of clothes and basic linens. I used the Finnish baby box list as a basis and since clothes are cheaper where she lives, I offered to pay the costs if she did the shopping. She came at Christmas with all the clothes and I could tell she had really enjoyed the process.

I was in the same situation. Live across the world and got pregnant. I told my mom after the doctor confirmed I was pregnant. I was planning on having the baby where my parents were, so I knew they would attend. Maybe they can come visit you ong you have the baby?

I'm in a similar situation.  My parents live an ocean away.  I told my mum right away (she knew we'd been trying for a while and was really anxious about us getting pregnant).  I told her over the phone and then we skyped and surprised my dad.

The only problem with telling my mum was that she was so excited that she had an extremely hard time keeping it to herself.  We found out around 4 weeks and I was determined not to tell anyone until we were nearly out of the first trimester.  She did end up telling a few people, which kind of made me sad, but I know it was just because she is so excited.

My family also lives in a different country. I told my parents at 5 weeks and just told them not to tell until we announced at 11 weeks.  They were SO happy and thankful I told them and for a little while it was also their secret to keep. I felt like since they are far away and won't be able to be part of the pregnancy, bringing them in at the beginning made it special for them. Obviously it's up to you 🙂 but I don't regret telling them.

I told my mom when I found out. I had a previous mc and had her tremendous support then so I wanted to have it again if God forbid I needed it
