45 min late still covered???

I took my pill 35 to45 min late. I take gianvi. Am I still covered to prevent pregnancy??

There are two types a pills: combination and the progestin-only. To find out which one you're on, refer to the pamphlet that is given to you with the pill.

Now you know that they are two types, which one are you on?

Since I don't know which one you're on, I will inform you about both!

For the combination pill and for progestin-only (12 hour mini pill), you have a 12 hour window. What that means is that you can take that pill within 12 hours without it being missed, however, you don't be fully protected, only typically protected. Typical protection ranges from 91%-99% protection rate. You're only typically protected when you take the pill 1-12 hours late. But you do have a one hour time frame to be fully protected at 99.7%! This means that if you take your pill within one hour of your regular time, you're fully protected!

Okay, now for the progestin-only (3 hour mini pill). For this one, you only have 3 hours to take it, or else it'll be considered as a missed pill. But if you take it within 30 minutes to 3 hours, you are typically protected! However, you only have 30 minutes to be fully protected, which is 99.5% for the mini pill.

Since you took it within 35-45 minutes of your original time, you're fully protected if you're on the combination or on the progestin-only (12 hour mini pill). If you're on the progestin-only  (3 hour mini pill), you're almost fully protected because it's just 5-15 minutes off of what you need to be fully protected! I'd say you're about 99% protected with the 3 hour mini pill, and 99.7% with the combination or the 12 hour mini pill!! They're both really good, either way!!
