Husband keeps telling people my diagnosis?

Question

My husband constantly discusses my diagnoses with his friends even though I've asked him not to. Even when his friends (who aren't mine and want nothing to do with) ask about us, he always refers to my depression. He's even gone as far as to reveal my entire mental health diagnosis with someone at our church which has put me off going completely. I don't know what to do.. it's made me hate and resent him so much.

It's 100% not his business to tell anyone. I'd be pissed too.

Is he just telling people close to him or is he telling everyone and anyone?

I only ask bc he may need support to or advice. And he may believe that these people are truly there for him and maybe can help him help you thru this.

Or he may think this is showing you support by showing he isn't embarrassed or ashamed.

Yes it's not really his right to tell people. But talk to him about WHY he is telling people before jumping to being angry. As many time we as females reach out to friends, family, or church in hopes of support and advice.

I think it's difficult bc there is still so much judgement surrounding mental health and wellness. I understand it's your diag. It's a significant part of his story too. He is clearly looking for support. You both should probably talk about boundaries. A few sessions in therapy may help you both come to understand the support you both need from each other and other people.

I was diagnosed with depression also and asked my fiancé not to tell anyone until I could get myself straightened out. He told his mom and I was a bit irritated but I also understood he needed support and advice during that time. He may just need the support. If he is telling anyone and every one I'd have a problem with it. But he may just be seeking advice and support from those he is close to.

He has no right to tell anyone your diagnoses without your consent.

Did you tell him not to? If you didn't, then he probably didn't know. Talk to him. Communicate. He can't read your mind.

I suffer with the same thing and would be furious if my husband shared that with everyone. I agree, it's not his business to tell. You need to have a serious conversation with him And let him know he's way beyond crossing the line and that's unacceptable. He has to respect such a private matter. Let him know it hurts you and upsets you and that it's really hurting your relationship and trust with him.

It's not that black and white. As others have said, he might need support. My ex had mental health issues that he didn't allow me to tell anyone about. I kept everything inside - how it affected me, our relationship, what our life really was like - and lied to my friends for years that everything was fine and dandy. In the end having to keep everything inside made ME have serious issues with my health. I'm sure it doesn't feel good to you that he talks about your issues with other people but it might be the thing that he needs to do to stay sane.

I'd be upset too but try to understand that he's going through it with you; he's affected by your depression and it sounds like he's talking to people as a means of finding support through a difficult time. His friends....he's talking to them because he's close to them. They may not be your friends but he likes them. The person at church....someone that can possibly pray for you guys during this time????  Idk but it's worth talking about and trying to understand rather than adding hate on top of depression.
