As someone who's taken these exams, I'm going to say that they are not basic. The questions are extremely redundant. The test doesn't tell you too much about the abilities of the teacher just like the SATs isn't always correct about a students performance for the first year of Undergrad. The subject tests were good, at least before they redid them, as they actually tested educators on what they'd be teaching. The newer tests are ridiculous.

I think this is just further proof that our education system is failing people. If as the article states (which I'm not sure) this is a test all high school seniors should be able to pass, how did all these individuals failing it graduate from high school. I also know that standardized tests in a lot of cases test your ability to take a test more than knowledge. Not sure if that's the case with this test. Ultimately, I don't think we should have teachers who are illerate. But I don't know if the test is truely testing that. I would need more information from multiple different sources to say if the test is bad or good.

I think it shows that there's a bigger problem that needs to be addressed here. There's a group of people that can't pass a literacy exam- that should be fixed. The government should be more concerned with making sure and taking steps towards ensuring these groups of people get access to quality education because from my understanding everyone in the US is supposed to be in school as a minor. They should be fixing the issue of people not recieving an proper education.

But that does mean you can't hire a teacher that can't pass a literacy exam. They're teaching kids to read and write and do maths and all sorts of other things. If they can't teach then they just perpetuate the problem. It's not being racist it's setting a set of standards and prerequisites- of a person can't pass them then you either don't become a teacher or you work to meet those standards so you can. But bottom line having teachers that aren't fully literate is going to hurt children's education and that's just not fair to a child.

I'm not familiar with this/these tests at all, and I don't read/watch Fox news for obvious reasons. But based on the info in front of me, here's my opinion.

If everyone is taking the same test and those passing stats are accurate, I don't think the test is biased. Everyone is taking the same test. There's not question a white person can answer that any other person can't. The problem doesn't lay within the test, it's showing us that we have a problem getting minorities the education they need to succeed. They need access to the same materials and curriculums. Everyone needs the same chance at it.

I saw a couple comments saying the test is redundant and not a good judge of who will be a good teacher. Again, I'm not familiar with the test, but if this is the case the tests should be looked at and re-evaluated. I still don't think there's any racial bias in it. Not if they're all given the same test.
