How do you pronounce NICU?

I'm British so I say N  I  C  U but I was watching an American programme today about babies and the narrator called it the Nick-you and it offended my ears 😂 I've only really ever seen the abbreviation written before so it seemed weird hearing him pronounce it that way.

ICU we spell out, then it's NIC-U for neonatal ICU and PIC-U for pediatric ICU. To me it sounds strange to spell out NICU, just a slight cultural difference I guess!

it's nick-you. my baby is in there and that's what all the nurses and drs say. lol i rarely hear them spell it out.

My mom was an OB nurse for a long time and always called it nick-you, so in my head that's how it's always been lol isn't it fun to hear something from a different culture and find out that somewhere THAT is someone's "normal"?
