Have you been emotionally abused by your boss?

Question

I was for a year, other employees told me they were abusing me but I didn't see it.
Not until it affected my relationship.
At that point the bosses got worse.
I felt trapped.
It ended with me going to therapy, and eventually standing up for myself and saying "I'm not worthless, and you can't tell me that I am." 
I got fired. And banned.

It's been a year next month, and I still think back to them. At my new job I am successful, with an even bigger corporate name.

But I can't stop thinking about their abuse and how bad they broke me. To the point of therapy.

I want to know your stories.
To know I'm not alone in professional abuse.

Because I still want to tell mine to someone, in detail what they did to me. I want to report the franchise owners to the corporate company, but I feel like it'll be a shout into the void.

Yep. I had a horrible micromanager who treated the employees like shit, but they all had what appeared to be a form of corporate Stockholm Syndrome. Like this woman would micromanage the wording of our minor emails and send follow up emails to "clarify" what we said. If we made a mistake we would have to go into her office where we'd get berated for not being detail oriented enough. And she was higher up and respected at that company so reporting it wouldn't have done any good.

Yes i have the other job i worked at i use to get yelled at blamed for things i didn't do. And the bosses use to rat on me  to the store manager. She also got store managers dayghter involved and other workers to do the same. And if i didn't jump or do my job fast enough they would tell me off. Sometimes they wouldn't give be brakes and i was 4 months pregnant. Once they found out they started treating me different. I had to ask to eat or take a brake. I got do tiered of being called to the office that transfered to another store. Once i went back for my check they acted like nothing happened. And had the nerve to ask when my shower was do they could come. Don't worry i wouldn't let it bother you your better of not working there and finding anther job. This discrimination and being pregnant at work seems to happen to a lot of people. Don't let it get to you.

I was. Eventually he really crossed the line, & the next day I left & never came back. I'm a big believer in proper notice when quitting a job, but I think I did the right thing in that circumstance. He was truly a terrible person, & other employees told me privately that they wished they had the guts to leave too.

Yes, and it shames me to think I allowed myself to be treated that way for four years. They were an older gay couple and I'm not sure to this day which one was worse. One was a true sociopath, extremely controlling and abusive but he could still be funny and charming and he'd make me feel needed and like his friend, then treat me horribly. Screaming, yelling in my face, or he'd storm around and ignore me on purpose while I stressed out trying to figure out what I'd done to make him angry with me. He'd wait until after I left then call me at home and rant at me. I used to hit the booze and slam as many shots as I could get in me before he'd call and just sit there crying while he berated me. After I quit he still expected me to come to work. Seriously. He came by my apartment and left threatening notes on my car after I turned my phone off and refused to have contact with him. He was truly ill.

But his partner was worse in that he allowed, encouraged and egged him on in his psychotic behavior, and was often the one doing things to "get me in trouble" with the first one, just for the fun and drama of it.

It's been ten years and I still have a knot in my stomach just thinking about it. It was a slippery slope that got gradually worse over time, and by the end I just can't tell you the millions of little things that led to how utterly under his thumb I was.
