Crying it out method? I don't personally agree and apparently my mother in law does this when she watches her and I don't agree. I do it once in a while but if it goes after 15 min or less I hold her.

I think there are a lot of requirements that need to be followed before you let a baby cry-it-out.  The baby must be able to self soothe, be full, have a clean diaper, not be sick, and have their emotional needs met. Then I also think you need to know what your baby's cries mean. There is crying out of anger, distress, fear, or just trying to get you to pick them up. I'd never let my baby cry it out if she genuinely was afraid or distressed. Sometimes however, she will want to sleep on me and I have to let her cry it out for a little bit. She is 9 months old though.

We just started this this because after the past 2 months of waking up every few hours I was at my breaking point. Last night I let him cry for an hour and we checked on him and let him know we were there for him. After he put himself down and slept from 915-430. I felt like a new woman this morning. Tonight did the same routine and he only cried for 6 mins. He is still sleeping as I write this! Oh and he has always been a crappy napper. Today he took 2 two hr naps at the sitters.

If this is really all it took I wish I did it months ago. It wasn't easy but i knew he was fed and changed.

Absolutely not. The scientific evidence points out that it is very likely detrimental to your bub's mental health and brain development. When a baby cries, they need you. They do not have the capacity to manipulate. They don't cry to spite you. They don't cry to 'protest'. They cry because they need something and some babies need more closeness to their primary caregivers than others. Sorry to be harsh but in my personal opinion: if your sleep needs are so much more important than the emotional needs of your child; why become a parent?

CIO and crying based methods of sleep training do not teach a baby to sleep. They teach a baby that they won't always be heard when they need you. I have zero understanding for why anyone would do that to their child.

Yes we did this. We did not let him cry longer than 45 min (and it depended on the type of cry) then I would go in change diaper and try to nurse then back to bed in his crib. We started this at 4 months old. It took about a week and now he is 9 months and sleeps 11 hours straight. He puts himself to sleep wide awake in his crib for naps and bed. I love it. Learning to sleep independently is a vital skill in my opinion.

I don't agree with any crying to sleep method. First, crying is not a good state to go into sleep. When I cannot get to him fast enough and he's crying  (i.e. I'm in the bathroom), I find him sweaty, snots coming out, red face etc. Why put him to that state in order to fall asleep? 
Second, I know it's supposed to be only a one time thing - like you do it for 2-10 days and then they sleep like angels forever. Except they don't. When they get sick, traveling, teething, through a growth spurt etc, they bounce back. It's not really a one time thing.
Third, even if it's one time, I believe letting them cry themselves to sleep does not teach them how to sleep better. They still wake up at night, they just don't call for your help. Since you taught them at night their cries mean nothing to you and you'll not help them with their needs. I find this disheartening, they're too young to be independent. I'd rather have the full trust of my baby that his needs will be met by me day and night.

Finally, I understand some mothers have no other choice because of their babies waking up every hour for months and months, and they're rolling into depression. To save your mental health and to be there for your baby during the day, you need to do this method.
However, I never understand (yet) why moms do it just because they heard that this is the way to go when it feels so wrong as they cry outside of the room.

My partner suggested trying it out once.... My replies refrained him from ever suggesting it again.

Everyone has their own view and I respect that but me personally, I couldn't stand to watch my child cry needlessly.

No, i didn't like it when I tried it. Broke my heart to see my baby cry and cry and physically reach out for me that I decided it wasn't going to work. It's not for everybody and I know my baby will eventually sleep through the night on his own when he's older. If my baby wakes up in the middle of the night, I let him fuss (not cry) until he can fall back asleep on his own. Sometimes it doesn't work and he will start to cry so I go in and figure out what he needs. It's usually to nurse, but hey, it puts him back to sleep and if he's happy .. I am too!

I didn't believe in it till i started using it to a point. But we had tried everything else and her sleep pattern had gotten so bad. We started letting her cry for 5 minutes go in lay her down rub her back and repeat until she falls asleep. 1st time took 40 minutes now after a week I didn't have to do anything last night she put herself down! Now I'm trying to wean bottles at night I know she doesn't want it when only drinking 2oz.

Hell no. We will never do CIO. Babies cry for a reason. Even if the reason is just to be loved on. They need to know that when they cry you'll always be there, that they're being heard, and that you're not abandoning them. It's so so important for their development.

Consistency is key with cry it out otherwise you get into neglect. Anytime your baby is with a caregiver other than yourself...they need to follow your instructions for care. I am so firm about this that if I found out my mother in law wasn't following my instructions I would stop leaving my baby with her. Make her take you seriously and follow your instructions. You know your baby best and she needs to respect that.
