White Privilege , Corrupt Cops or Both?

I was on Instagram and saw this story that really broke my heart and honestly pissed me off. Society is repeatedly showing us that black lives do not matter to them at all. Like we're scum on the bottom of a shoe. I did do my research and find the full story since the one I read came from a gossip page and it will be included. My question is, is this white privilege that everyone swears doesn't exist or is this a corrupt system of law enforcement? Or maybe it's both? (I didnt screenshot every word bc I know y'all aren't trying to read all that)

I fail to see what this has to do with white people, so I won't answer that as it has nothing to do with this case.

As for what happened, I think it has more to do with the lack of training on how to deal with those who have mental issues. I'm sure that the doctors there aren't allowed to disclose the possible side effects of the medication the inmate was on, so the officers probably didn't know why he went to the bathroom in his cell and figured he was doing it just to start problems. Them leaving him in the shower for so long though is a huge issue, and they should obviously be reprimanded for it.

This is terrible. But can I ask why you believe it was racially motivated? It seems more discriminatory against those with mental illnesses than against black people. We don't even know if the offending officers were white or not.

Holy cow. I'm blown away at this, actually. My husband is a corrections officer in Florida, and if he so much as holds an inmate's arm incorrectly during an escort, he can get written up for use of force. (And he's one that doesn't like using force at all unless completely necessary). The way his prison functions, this would not fly, at all, even if the inmate was aggressive or malicious towards the COs. 
This is tragic. So many people failed the inmates in this prison. It is corrections officer's job to both enforce the rules within the prison AND keep the inmates safe and healthy. They had no legal or moral right to do this to another person, regardless of his behavior or actions. There are policies in place for these types of things, and they crossed a hundred different lines. It is the warden's job to make sure the CO's do not abuse that power and make sure that his/her prison is running correctly. This should have NEVER been allowed to happen, and it sounds like it had happened several times before. This should have been stopped immediately and dealt with accordingly. It was that judge's job to make sure that that inmate's family was given justice for his mistreatment and that other inmates like him were protected from the people that did this and allowed this to happen. 
This is tragic. And it deserves to be looked into more thoroughly.

Okay, so after I did a lot of googling and reading several articles about this story, I found that none of the articles mentioned the skin color of the guards. At least one gave the description of Roland Clarke and said that he went to FIU where he played football. So I used his description and college to look him up to get confirmation that he was white, and I found this picture on the FIU website matching his exact description. So now seeing that he isn't white, do some of you still feel that this would fall under 'white privilege' since at least one of the guards involved wasn't white? (I could find no info on the others).

The Officers was abused their authority and presumably killed Mr. Rainey. Regardless, if he was on his medication it would not have caused for his heart to fail in that manner. More than likely, the officers roughed him up for defecating in his cell or because he may have had an episode. They sat him in a steaming shower, which denatured his DNA, causing his body temperature to increase beyond normal body temperature. Leaving Mr. Rainey in the shower for 2hours unsupervised is against most correctional facilities regulations and that is an infraction. They killed him and there needs to be an independent investigation into the COs and MEs office.

This is corruption and a cover up.

The police was essentially created to control minorities, and act as slave patrol.

With that said, the police have been corrupted since it was created. That corruption happens to be white privilege.

Jesus I hadn't even read the article when I commented!! That is horrific and the cornoner has to be excusing the prison intentionally. His skin was slipping off!! That is so awful. How do you leave someone in a shower for two fucking hours and not be doing it to intentionally harm someone?? Disgusting.

This is a corrupt system for sure. I absolutely agree that police unfairly target African Americans, look at the man who was shot just trying to get a  patient back to the care facility, while laying on the ground with his hands up. Literally how can that be excused?? 
I don't know how to fix it but I admit there is a hell of a problem. I wish I had answers.

I'm not saying I agree with the term 'white privilege' but I thought the term was used more in the way of saying there is more opportunity and lack of profileing for a white person vrs a different race...

IF this man was murdered because he was black, I think the term is just a strait up hate crime/racism.. I'm not sure the term white privilege applies in this case, unless you can clarify how you are using it

That is fucking horrible. If he had a mental illness, why was he in jail though? What was he in jail for? I must have missed those
