what would you think if your doctor wore sweatpants and polo tshirt to work daily?

Would you think anything of it? Would you doubt his professional opinion? Would you even see him or would you go elsewhere or ask to see another doctor? Does it matter what he wears to work? Would you still think the same if it were a woman?

My doctor as in my obgyn?  My obgyn wore regular clothes and SOMETIMES her white jacket (or whatever they call it) on top, opened up. 
My obgyn is a God sent and her clothing style made ZERO impact on her work capabilities, knowledge,  attitude and overall experience. I love my obgyn even if she showed up to work in a clown outfit, because her clothes do jot affect her job in any way

I would probably be jealous because that sounds pretty comfy. I wouldn't think they aren't capable of doing their jobs.

Well the reason they wear what they wear is for sanitary reasons and to distinguish themselves from patients or others working in the office, so ya no I probably wouldn't go to that doctor.

I'm in the veterinary profession so not quite the same but professionalism is just as important (I take classes on this with the med students on occasion). You don't have to dress up in suit every day but we're all told you should look professional because you represent the profession. But the dress requirements vary. If you're a doctor in a hospital often you're required to wear scrubs or dress professionally (My focus is large animals so I often wear shorts and a tank top but have coveralls on top so I soil professional for my job- it depends on what you're doing as a doctor really) and wear your white coat in certain situations (it's mostly so staff know who's who). If you're in private practice the rules might be more relaxed but any doctors office I've ever been to or veterinary clinic the staff always dresses professionally to some degree. They look clean and put together.

But as someone who's part of the health care world I would not go to a doctor that dresses in sweatpants. To me it shows that you don't respect your profession and the medical profession is prestigious and you've worked hard to get where you are. It's an important and honourable profession. I personally think dressing like a slob is a bit disgraceful and doesn't show respect for your own job. So no I wouldn't trust a doctor that couldn't be bothered to put on nice clothes (it doesn't have to be a suit but scrubs, nice jeans, a collared shirt, etc).
