Did your water break before or after your contractions started?

They broke my water with my first after I got the epidural. With my second, they were also going to break it after the epidural but they broke as my OB removed her hand after a pelvic check (I was 5-6 cm at that point).

My water actually broke first yesterday at 5:30 am. Went to l&d and the nurse swabbed me and agreed it broke bc I was still gushing out water on the bed. But no contractions. They sent me home to see if I'd go naturally and wanted me to come back at 6pm to get checked. My cervix was really high and I was barely 1cm dialated. Came back, still no contractions, so they scheduled me to be induced at 6:30 am today unless I get contractions naturally, which nothing is going on. The Dr doesn't want me going past 24 hours of my water breaking bc of risk of infection.
