is my tattoo infected?

I've had my tattoo for like 5 or 6 days now and there's a lot of redness around it; spreading to the left. It also hurts quite and bit and burns occasionally. I've also gotten two pimples in the area since the redness began.

Doesn't look infected, but it does look like your skin is irritated. I'd try putting some lotion on it, Eucerin has a brand of lotion meant apexifically for tattoos

It's possible it's just from trauma to the skin, but make sure you're not using any scented body wash or lotion on the area. I usually use aquaphor until it starts getting itchy and peeling before I switch to unscented lotions. If it doesn't go away soon, I would talk to a doctor or your artist.

Its normal to have redness even after a few days when you have that much solid color. I would try switching to a different cream or lotion. I always use A&D the first week then I switch to a non scented lotion. Make sure to use non scented antibacterial soap and to not scratch it. Make sure to only touch it with clean hands also. definitely go see your artist if you're worried. pain is normal especially with THAT much colour packed in! keep up with your aftercare and have a chat with your artist, they'll know what to do.

no its not infected. thats an area that is moved alot which would cause healing to be longer & worse. i use medicated moisturizer. my forearm was very painful & swollen for like 5 days because i open & close my arm so frequently. but it would be oozing & pussing if it were infected. good luck & clean it several times a day followed by scentless lotion or medicated ointment (recommended)
