It's not bad! Just be sure to fly the safe way, with baby in their own seat AND car seat. Which means they need their own ticket to guarantee a seat.

I know people will disagree with me, but it's really the ONLY safe way to fly. Of course, nothing in this world will help in the event of a catastrophic accident, but those are incredibly rare. The majority of injuries and accidents occur during takeoff and landing and are quite frequent. Not to mention turbulence. If a coffee pot is secured for flight, so should a precious child.

We flew international (Australia to USA) with our nearly four month old son last year. Wasn't bad. We had a seat with a bassinet in front of us which was great. Don't bother booking baby a seat (expensive and you won't use it) just keep bub on your lap and nurse/feed during take off and landing (their ears can hurt)
