Why are you getting induced?

I've seen a lot of posts about induction. I'm interested to know the reasons for induction. I'm wondering if doctors overuse induction instead of allowing you to labor naturally. I've been told baby will come when she/he is ready.

Induction is overused and it is sometimes necessary for the health of baby and mom.

There were many issues, especially through the 90s when 37 weeks was declared to be full term. Many women had elective inductions that ended in emergency c-section and babies across the board had lower apgar scores. Induction before your body is ready for birth is not ideal. In 2014, the definition of full term was changed to 39-40 weeks, with 37 and 38 being considered early term.

Even when done at term, induction can compromise the natural process of birth and end up necessitating a whole string of interventions.

I believe many OBs are forced to make medical decisions based on liability and risk, instead of on evidence based science. It's very sad and women and babies in the US pay the price.

I was induced with my first at 38+3 due to preeclampsia. My blood pressure was through the roof and my kidneys were shutting down. My second they scheduled and induction date for around 42 weeks, but she came on her own at 40+1. Currently sitting at 40+4 with my third. No induction date scheduled yet cause my doc knows I want to go naturally, but I have a NST on Thursday and if that goes well again they'll let me go till 42 if I want, but I'm praying she comes before Thursday even. Momma is uncomfortable. If my NST says baby is stressed though I'll be getting induced, which I'm 100% agreement then I don't want baby stressed.

I am scheduled to be induced if baby doesn't come on her own because I have Gd. I really do not want to be induced so I'm praying I go into labor on my own like I did with my first.

I have two baby boys (ages 4 & 1) .I was induced with both of them. At first my oldest was trying to come early at 30weeks than they stopped it and gave me steroids. Than I turned 42 weeks and end up getting induced. With my 2nd I really don't know why they didn't wait because I really wanted to experience the water break on my own.but I went in for a normal check up and doctor said let's induce you tomorrow. So another baby induced . so I pray this one doesn't have to get induced also I want to experience everything natural

I was induced because I ended up developing pre-eclampsia in a matter of a day, but I was also already 39w5d. If my pre-eclampsia didn't develop I would have been induced around the 41 week mark. I am thankful I was induced though because at 39 weeks 5 days my daughter was born at 8lbs 3oz. If I had waited 2 more weeks she could have been 10lbs by then  🙈

My doctor won't allow it unless medically necessary. I asked because my support person (sister) will be flying in from Florida and she has kids and a husband so we were hoping to make it easier but we couldn't. So she is going to have to sit with me until I start labor.

Most doctors in our area induce at 39 weeks so they can keep on a schedule no other reason. My doctor refuses to induce before 42+2 unless medically necessary.

I got induced with my first at 39 weeks because my husband is military and was gearing up for an underway so we wanted to make sure he could be there for our sons birth and have a couple week with him at home before leaving.
