what do you do when family starts buying unnecessary things for baby?

It's not that I'm not grateful but I feel like we told them we were pregnant they waited until they knew the gender now all they're doing is buying things. My MIL bought a Moses basket and I don't even think I'll use it and I don't want them to spend all their money on stuff like that.. they haven't even asked what we need it's more like they're deciding for us.

I told my family I didn't think I would use certain things and I didn't want them to waste their money on something i probably wouldn't use and made my husband tell his family

When you find out let me know lol my family is doing the same thing. I don't want clutter. I'd rather have half the money they spent or even products o specifically asked for.

Be open about it. My family you have to be open and blunt about it ( they don't mind, it actually helps) or they will go all crazy getting things lmao

You can accept gratefully, then either use it, return it or donate or when you don't end up using it.
OR
You can talk to them about it, make a registry of the things you do want and direct them to that.

My MIL is the same. Never asks. With her personality we have to be up front and say if you'd like to buy something for us just wait for us to tell you what we need so we avoid duplicates and clutter. So it depends on how people are. You can just return it and buy what you want as well. As long as you know where it's from or have a receipt

I just took stuff back and bought what she needed. I said thank you and then took stuff back. A registry didn't matter to my family, they just did what they wanted.

Make a registry. Although a Moses basket is cool as hell. You can literally put the baby down for a nap anywhere with one of those.

Make a registry and send it out to people so they know what you do want? They're probably just very excited and want to buy things for the little one! My mom bought enough clothes for the babies first 2 years lol. She also bought it a battery powered car(I'm only 6 months pregnant...) So I understand the overboard.

We made a registry and a list of what we do have and sent that to her.
