Anemia?

Question

I went for an ultrasound to control the growth of my baby and the Dr. told me my heart was beating really fast and that it was because I'm anemic, I told him I'm taking the iron pills with the orange juice and eating food with iron but I don't know what else can I do, he told me I might need someone to donate blood to me if I stay this way. 
I'm extremely worried now! What can I do that can help me with the anemia? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi there :) I am currently studying medicine so I'm hoping I can help you out a little. It sounds like you have iron deficiency anemia, which is quite common during pregnancy because of the increased metabolic demands on the body. This is why you have a fast heart beat, or as doctors call it, tachycardia. Taking an iron supplement is a great start as this will aid to increase your body's natural iron stores. I would suggest that you take vitamin C also, as this helps the body absorb the most iron it can. Foods that are high in iron include your red meats, lentils, dark leafy greens such as spinach. You may be doing everything you can, but you might still need a little help. Which is why your doctor has mentioned a blood transfusion. This is usually a last resort, as you can get iron injections before this. A blood transfusion can sound scary, but it isn't something you should be worried about. If this is needed, make sure you are well informed. And remember, your doctor will only request this if it's for the betterment of your health :) I hope this helps somewhat

Chlorophyll often helps too. I'm taking the capsules, 100 mg three times a day. (One with each meal)
