can babies use cell phones???

So I have a 9 month old. I'm a sahm, so I'm very interactive with her. She's never really been interested in my phone, and she's always had toys and myself to keep her entertained. But I downloaded this game for babies that shows animals and what they're called and they dance and so on. She loves it, she's screaming, she's rolling around laughing with my phone. She's the happiest I've seen her with an object! The thing is she's been playing with it for awhile and I took it away. She's crying and upset, but I just feel bad for shoving a phone in her face. I've always felt kids with phones is wrong, she's a baby she shouldn't be on a cell phone, even if it's on an app for kids. So what would you do? Should I give it back to her or what 🤔

I wouldn't give it back to her because she's going to want it all the time. It just opens the door to screen addiction really early.

Hi! As a specialist in child development for my job, I recommend not to give screen time. When using a phone, a television or other sources of screen time children's brains only use half of the neutrons that they would normally use while say reading a book. Although she might like it, studies are also showing that our children are becoming addicted, much like a cocaine addict and withdrawal can cause mood swings, behaviour and other problems. So as much as your child may like it, it is unwise to give it to them, instead try building schemes and other neurons up with a book, create little flash cards, sing songs with animal noises! We want to build the brain not let the pathways die!

It's fine in moderation, as long as that's not her primary source of entertainment, which from reading your post it obviously isn't. Don't feel bad, mama. I've done the same thing from time to time. Heck, my nana was able to entice my 8 month old into crawling by playing a cartoon on her phone and holding it just out of her reach.

They can, yes,  but they shouldn't.

We let my 6 month old play with our phones sometimes. We just moderate how long he plays with them & distract him with other toys when we take the phone away.
