Hi I'm a nursing student so sure! The physiological mechanisms behind erection involve nitric oxide in the corpus cavernosum (erectile tissue in the penis and clit!) this activates an enzyme called guanylate cyclade  which results in increased levels of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (let's just say cGMP, another fancy word). This allows the smooth muscle in the tissue to relax and let blood in. Slidenafil or viagra, enhances the effect of NO by inhibiting PDE5 (basically another fancy name I'm not going to bother with) just know PDE5 inhibits our first fancy friend cGMP who we like cause it lets blood fill the erectile tissue. That's basically does through complicated pathways it increases blood flow to the penis.
