sore during sex?

My boyfriend and I just got back together. We have sex for an hour or so at a time. After a couple rounds I get so sore that I can't have any sort of penetration at all without having a lot of pain. Usually on the outside where you insert it. Is this normal? Should I get checked? We've tried lube but I still get sore after a while. (He's huge and we get really rough) My assumptions is that its friction or too much sex.
