What do you think about the homeless??!

Question

So today on my way to work, I saw this kid (he looked about 11/12 years old) 
He was sleeping (used his backpack as a pillow and had a blanket)..it was cold. I felt so bad for him as I was kind of in the same situation..... I had ran way from home one day and slept out in the cold (it made me tear up a bit just thinking about homeless people)
So I went to him and gave him $10 (it wasn't much but that was all I could give him)
I walked off feeling relieved. I had seen him a little while later and he went to buy food for himself (made me more happier that he had eaten)

I came home and told my mother that I had seen the kid but didn't tell her I had given money to him. My family thinks that all homeless people are lazy and manipulative. "All they do is beg and can't get a job for themselves...they use the money for drugs". Let me remind you that it's hard to find a job in Australia...

I don't regret doing what I did!! Homeless people are also humans. Not all of them "use it for drugs"...some of them ran away from home or just can't find work that suits them because most jobs here need experience (which is ridiculous because that's the purpose of getting a job, "to get the experience!!")

So my questions is, do homeless people deserve any sympathy?
Are they all lazy?
Should we feel bad for them?

my mom always said, it doesn't matter if they use the money for good or bad, as long as you do your part in giving, you will always revive something good in return, it could b from anybody. props to you! I always keep change in my car strictly for homeless people, you could never know what got them there, bless your soul sweetie!!

Img how unfortunate. I live in miami where house prices keep going up and new tall buildings are being built, while homeless people sleep under whatever shelter they can find under these expensive places. It's so sad seeing so much money and then seeing a person begging those with money and being turned down. I personally have a lot of compassion for homeless people and I specifically wanna start up a conpany to give things out to them. I try to always give some money whenever i see them but i'm only 18 in college so i don't have that much of an impact but it's a start. And for the whole "drug, cigarette, drinks" thing, i dont really care because if im giving up my money, it's theirs and they can do with it as they see fit; it's not my money to control anymore and you cant tell who's genuinely gonna use it for food or drugs anyway so why would it matter

I don't give money to the homeless or traveling. I DO, however, buy canned foods, plastic utensils, a couple bottles of water, and some fresh fruit to give to them. I also occasionally give deodorant and toothpaste/toothbrushes. This gives me a slight peace of mind knowing that the money I could've given them was spent towards what they need and not what they want, and also helps me know that they are being taken care of for another couple of days. I would recommend that to anyone.

Where I am from,  most homeless people do spend all the money they get on drugs and alcohol, even kids. Or they even act like they're disabled when they're actually not so people would give them money. That's why I don't have any sympathy at all for most of them. You're in a shit situation yet you wouldn't even spend the money you get from begging on somehing good. I know that's not the case for everyone though, but for the majority of them it is.

Um I think that that's a kid for your family to be saying that is stupid I personally would of helped that kid even more but thanks for giving him money anything helps
