Opinions on child support?
A little backstory! I have a friend who's gender we will not reveal because I want everyone's honest opinions, and not what they think should happen based on outdated gender roles. This friend might be a woman, they might be a man. Keep that in mind. This friend has three children already, and this friend is now expecting a fourth. This friend's children have all been spawned by different people. My friend has not been able to keep a partner for longer than two years. None of F's (which is what we'll call them, short for friend) partners are on child support. They're all very good parents, they love F dearly and are all very sad that their relationship didn't work out. F has a great life! F's exes make sure F and their kids want for nothing. Now, F has a new partner, and F's new partner (P) is a sack of shit. F wants to put P on child support, but our friend group told F that they are wrong. F can easily provide for a fourth child, even without their 3 exes who regularly send F thousands of dollars per month. F knows that P is probably gonna be a shitty parent. P has no children and very very little income. So any child support that F receives from P will do very little to help care for the little one, and will probably end up negatively impacting P's life. Now, P probably should've thought of that before they decided to slack with their birth control, but that's neither here nor there. The question is: If the parent with primary custody of the child makes waaaaayyyy more money than the other, should the other parent still have to pay child support? What do y'all think about child support in general? One of our friends argued that even if F was destitute, it is their responsibility to make sure that they are able to take care of their child on their own in the event that their partner can not. Another friend said that P should be obligated to pay child support because P should be held responsible for the life they helped to create (but I disagree with that logic. It's like saying that children are some kind of punishment). What say you?
