castor oil?!

Anybody tried castor oil here?, I'm a bit confused and nervous although the doctor suggested it. Can't seem to make up my mind

Your doctor must be extremely out of date if he actually recommended castor oil. Not only will it cause you to have terrible diarrhea, but it can cause your baby to poop while still inside the womb & ingest the meconium, which can be very dangerous - even fatal. It's not worth the risks. Baby will come when they are ready.

I've done tons of research on it, and the only risk I've found to be proven is that it can cause dehydration. I know 5 women it has worked for, and I'm going to try it this weekend.

I am told by my midwife that it works good but only if you are dilated. If you're not dilated at all it's gonna do is give you the poops.

I did it the day before my due date. No it didn't make me poop all night. I walked a lot after I took it and drank water non stop. That next morning I was in labor and had my daughter. She had no distress and no pooping inside of me... honestly anything you try could distress to baby if your body isn't ready. If you wanna try it then do. Honestly no one can really say unless they have tried it. Haha good luck! 👍

I used it with my first, the day after my membrane sweep and went into labor within a few hours (not sure which caused it). I used it last week at 38 weeks with this one because I've already started to dilate, and it didn't work. I never really got terrible diarrhea either time, but it's important to stay hydrated. The only thing about castor oil that is dangerous is becoming dehydrated and wearing yourself out before active labor begins. If you do take it, stay hydrated, take a walk about 30 minutes later and then relax after the walk. Also, many women are so desperate to get baby out they take way more than the recommended dose! I wouldn't take more than 2tbs. Good luck.
