Do you prefer traditional or unique spellings for names?

Unique meaning, for example, Lakynn instead of Laken.

I don't mind unique, but when you start throwing extra vowels in just for the hell of it and spelling things that don't make sense phonetically or linguistically, to me it just looks uneducated and like you don't know how to spell the actual name. But not my baby so not my business.

Depends on the name. I prefer how my name is spelt compared to the original though. My SO is also named Deryck instead of Derek and I like the more unique spelling on his too. But I think it gets taken too far sometimes

I guess I just don't understand why people choose traditional names that are meant to be pronounced the same and everything but have to have a unique spelling... like if you want a unique name why not pick a nice, classy unique name instead of misspelling a traditional one? Like some aren't bad and there are multiple spellings for some names but some people go overboard and cross that thin line of unique and plain crazy. Like if you like emily why do you have to spell it emmaleigh?

I saw 'Annalise' spelt 'Analyse', which is the British spelling of 'analyze'...

Definitely not pronounced 'Annalise'...

With only one of my girls name I tried spelling it unique. I spelled it Madalynne instead of Madeline. & the other one I just gavr the traditional spelling of Emily.
