Sooo yesterday a new show was added on Netflix called Cable Girls. I watched like half of the entire first season last night and it is GOOD. It isn't in English though Netflix gives you the option of English subtitles or English voice over (I couldn't handle their words not matching their lips though). It's set in 1928 Madrid, Spain. If you liked The Great Gatsby you'll LOVE this show. It's just like the 1920s in New York City. It has four female leads, all with very different lives and personalities but they become friends working for a telephone company as switchboard operators. The main premise is the four of them trying to find themselves, love, and independence while trying to navigate through a highly sexist era. There is LGBT representation, it brings up violence against women, sexual assault, love triangles, affairs, political feminist movements during the era are brought up and touched on. It's really remarkable and though it is set in the 1920s a lot of what these woman face is still very applicable to what women face today. Though, some people have disagreed with a lot of the social commentary on the show, I think the show should be given a try, it brings awareness to a lot of important issues for women.
