acne problems

So I have been suffering from hormonal acne for a very long time. Cleared up and it came back and wearing makeup really doesn't help. I recently went to a dermatologist and she practically made it worse with what she prescribed I had a flare up and in the worse part (on my jaw line) and cheeks. The dark spots refuses to go away . Does anyone know what works for them.? I feel like I tried everything even when I'm consistent with it.
