what toys to buy infants?!

There is so many toys and stuff. 
Like what do I buy?or make?
I need opinions on what to avoid and a must haves.  (I am not talking about swings or walkers)

My son didn't play with anything until he was about 3 months old. Got the really months I would just get a play mat to use for tummy time. I like the kick and play from Fisher price bc the toys could be played with on his back and tummy & playing with the piano is part of why he got so underrated I'm sitting up.

The linking little circle things. Anything like sensory balls, or things that are simple. I've spent so much money on tons of toys and he only likes the simple ones.

My daughter didn't care for toys much until she was a few months old. Then it was just the tags on blankets or a particular stuffed animal that was easy for her to hold (giraffe, I think the long neck helped). Once she started crawling, she still didn't care much for her toys. She preferred all my Tupperware in the lower cabinets and the poor dog's tails, lol. 
I wouldn't worry too much about buying toys early on.

I have a few books that i plan on reading to her right away, the kind where it there are different materials to touch and feel. I got a cute finger puppet farm animal book too 😊
