Infant Insert a must for Ergo original?

I just purchased an Ergo Original second hand and am contemplating if the infant insert is a must or not. I am due June 25th and where I live it's 90+° outside during the summer. The less bulk the better I think but I wanted to know some safe options instead of the insert. Thanks!

Look up ways to use a receiving blanket. There's ways to do so without paying for the insert.
