Cold Cuts / Lunch Meat?

Did you/are you eating cold cuts/lunch meat while pregnant? I want a turkey sandwich so much!

Yup I am. I don't give into those random silly rules. You can run into the same problem with any food. It's quite common in bagged salads as well, but also still very rare.

Heat up the turkey until it's steaming in the microwave! You will get lots of stories about how women did all kinds of things and their babies were fine, but I tend to be cautious because I want to protect my baby as much as I possibly can!

You're more likely to get listeria from fruits and vegetables and no ones telling you to avoid those. Eat your sandwich

I did in moderation. The fear is getting listeria, but you can get that from leafy greens too. Ever heard of anyone advised to stay away from salad? I don't go crazy on deli/lunchmeats because of all the sodium and nitrates they contain but they are delicious every once in a while.

I wasn't until I have heard 2 recent listeria recalls, one for frozen waffles/pancakes and one for ice cream. It made me realize in my 32 years of life I have heard for listeria recalls for many things such as fruits and vegetables and those just mentioned but never for lunch meat. I would have never thought to cut waffles out of my pregnancy diet and that could have got me so why worry so much about lunch meat? I've been craving a turkey sub so bad anyways lol

Normally if I'm craving a sub I go to subway and have them toast the meat just to be safe but we go on roads trips every other month and I always pack sandwiches to eat, no way to toast in the car so I just eat them.

My doctor said to be safe you want to microwave or toast it...but then she also said if it was her she would probably just eat it and not bother with heating it up.
