do you even need a baby shower?

So I guess I'm not allowed to have a shower for my first born because I already have some stuff for the baby (I'm still having one). Someone asked me why was I even going to have a  shower since I already have a lot. Well, I want to have a baby shower because it's fun and I'll always have those pictures and memories. I'm not doing it for the gifts. But, just because we are somewhat prepared for the baby,  you're not going to want to get the baby a gift? Do you agree with this sort of thinking? (Funny thing is that 70% of the items I have are things I definitely wouldn't have gotten at the shower anyway, like furniture.)
