Water for a 7 month old?

My son is formula fed and is now also eating baby food to include meats. I was wondering if and when it was ok to give him water? Is it too soon?

I just give my 7 1/2 month old a sippy cup with some water. It's mostly for practice and to just give her a taste of water 😊

It's a must as soon as you reduce milk intake over other food to offer water as well.

I put about a couple of ounces in a sippy cup at meal times and offer it to him for practice using a sippy. But he never takes more than a few sips off of it. He probably gets about an ounce all day from his little sips with his food. He gets constipated easily so I give him the little bit of water to also keep him from getting that way as often.

I specifically asked my doctor about it. She said because fat is required for brain development, that you should only be giving your baby high fat liquids until 12 months, so only breastmilk or water. She said you just don't get this time back for brain development, so you really shouldn't be filling part of their belly with water when you can be giving breastmilk or formula!
