Love in the beginning is usually easy, but lifelong love is work. You choose every day to put in the effort. Once you stop trying, once you stop working, once you start taking your partner and their feelings for granted, your love will suffer.

I've been with my husband for 6 years and don't find that I have to work to stay in love. We rarely fight. Sure he says thoughtless things here and there. But our rule is this... always wake up knowing that we're a team and that we don't want to hurt each other. Be mindful of your actions and how they'll affect the other person. And when shit hits the fan, remind yourself that his intent wasn't to hurt you. It's easy to not fight when you wake up every day actively trying not to hurt the other person.

Love is only work if you make it work. It doesn't have to be if you and your partner are on the same page
