I didnt like it. I get the idea of suicide awareness and rape culture. But to me it could have been portrayed better. Like when her ex friend was raped, she didnt say a thing, she bullied atleast in my opinion the people on those tapes. I know it was to make them aware that they made her feel suicidal(yes i know suicidal people arent in their right mind), but she caused another person to attempt suicide and drove others mad and worried about tapes being released. Should have just released the tapes instead of being a bully herself. Plus the whole way she treated clay was just crappy in my opinion. I think they could have gave awareness on the topics in a better way. Not a big fan of the books or show. Plus if you notice the shirts or memes of the show they are in my opinion making fun of the show and glorifying suicide. Missing the whole point of what the show should be which is that our actions have consequences, rape culture is a thing, and suicide awareness.

Yes and showing the entire freaking suicide was completely unnecessary. I had a literal panic attack (and not just the expression, a real physical panic attack). I know there was a trigger warning but god that was just for shock factor. Plus you aren't responsible for someone else's mental health.

Nope. I'm a person who LOVES bingewatching new shows I have never watched but the thing is EVERYBODY is talking about it. If it's like anything people say it is I know I won't enjoy it.

Everyone acts like this is the first show to display suicide or rape and that's what I don't get. I get this is kind of geared towards a younger audience but I know twelve year olds that watch SVU. It's a bit overrated but I think I'm instills a good mentality. Like how you learn to hate Courtney or whatever, it makes you more likely to not just let that kind of thing pass if you experience it. My cousin goes to school in Indiana and she said a bunch of girls had the courage to stand up to this junior who spread los of rumors about them. It was big or dramatic or anything, but they did threaten to go on the morning show and do this whole thing and he apologized right away. Obviously he should have no matter what, but the point was, the show made them realize what this guy was doing was unacceptable and he shouldn't just get away with it because he was prom "prince" (junior) and played tennis.

Kinda annoyed that unoriginal and problematic shows like this keep getting renewed for more seasons, but quality shows like The Get Down are cancelled.

I personally have seen shows/movies that deal better with rape, mental illness, bullying and suicide than this.

I work with teens so I take initiative to watch these shows they keep talking about and when I say watch I tend to binge watch on the weekend. We actually had a very educational discussion about this show and believe it or not at the end of the discussion we voted and out of 15 teens plus myself we found that it was educational, yes I agree the suicide scene was a bit much but it also showed a very harsh reality
