mom angry I won't travel with 2.5 month old?!

So my mom has a lot of health and mental issues so she has trouble thinking logically sometimes or seeing someone else's perspective. When I found out I was pregnant and due Oct 3rd I tried to prepare her in advance that I would not be able to visit her for Christmas. It would require flying (which not sure if baby will be totally vaxed yet and we can't afford) or driving which without a baby takes 16 hours and I'm guessing with a baby would take much longer. She is furious and told me I'm selfish and she no longer considers me family. Am I way off base thinking traveling that far with a 2.5 month old is a bad idea/near impossible?!

I think it's ridiculous for her to not understand. Traveling is totally doable, though! If you do fly, baby can stay on your lap, you wouldn't have to pay for another seat with most airlines. Driving would be miserable I would think tho.

I drove to Washington state with a 2 month old, 3 year old and 9 year old it took a little over 16 hrs I'd say around 20. I would only travel after my 2 month old had her first set of shots and my mom agreed! If I knew my mom was sick I'd go, by that time your baby should have her shots and be fine.

Ugh. I don't care if your kid is 47 with a job and a family. If you don't want to travel, don't. Let her be pissed.

I'm due October 27 and we will be going to Colorado for Christmas! My entire family is out there and want them to meet my little man. Plus I've never gone a year without spending Christmas with them

I think her reaction is totally unreasonable. It should be up to the parents on what they want to do with their own child. However I probably would fly back (assuming the Dr ok'd it). I live overseas from my family, and due Oct 2nd with our first baby, and it breaks my heart we won't be able to go back this Christmas.

I kinda feel like she's being selfish. Is she not able to travel to you due to medical reasons? And especially (God forbid) you'd have to get a c section, more than likely you won't be able to travel at all whether it be car or plane just because you might still be in pain and healing.

I have not had a Christmas with my mom in ten years because she live in Texas and I'm in Michigan. We normally try to go see her in July but baby's do in July she is coming up to me this year. Baby will be to young for a trip like that at 2.5 if you ask me. So just do what is right for your family and your mom will just have to get over it

My family and my fiance's family live in California. My baby is also due October 2, and I already told them we are not coming for the holidays this year due to the baby being so young. It's not that I mind traveling with the baby but it is a 26 hour drive from where we live in Texas and I think I will lose my mind being in the car with the two older kids and having to pull over more often to feed/ change diapers. It would take us DAYS to get there. They were understanding and are coming to visit instead 🙂

I hear ya! I'm due Oct 22 and already told our families Christmas is 50/50 right now. It's a 12 hour drive for us and we won't fly bc we bring our dogs home every year for that week ( also my kids, they come with! No questions!) but our family is being understanding about it but kinda sad, so hopefully overtime your mom will become a little more understanding of the emotions you are feeling!
