what to expect with midwife?

I just got my prenatal care switched from my doctor to a midwife, my first midwife appointment is in about an hour. Anyone who's had a midwife before-- what should I expect? I'm 17 weeks

My midwife allows me to ask every and any question I have. She takes her time with me and is very detailed in her answers. She doesn't dismiss me or anything like that. My first appointment was an hour. We spoke about my history, what I expect from her, what she expects from me. She included my husband and my daughter in the appointment and was incredibly kind. They do the standard urine check. Where I am I check it myself. They check my blood pressure, find a heart beat, measure my fundal height, and feel around for the baby. When they find the baby I'm told where the baby is and what position. She talks to the baby while she does it. I love it where I am!

It will probably be your strandard app. Since your 17 weeks they will probably go over if have blood work done and other testing done pior to 17 weeks with your previous doctor tell you what to expect in your upcoming pregant set up your app for your 20 week Anotomy scan. Urine test blood pressure check baby heart beat check weight.

Same thing as a dr. Only difference is a midwife can't do emergency c sections if needed.

I had a midwife with my first pregnancy and am going that route again with my second. First appointment will usually just be going over basic health and history etc and listening to the heart beat. Might do blood work too
