Question

So today a friend and I were talking about our ideal guy. I said my ideal guy would be taller than me (my short so it's not hard), thin and not too muscular, blue/gray eyes and blonde. This girl standing next to us and not involved in our conversation turned to me and called me racist because I'm only attracted to white men (I'm guessing that came from the blue eyes and blonde comment I made). Now I'm not racist at all and was a bit offended because that's not what my friend and I implied at all. I never said I was only attracted to these kinds of men just that they were my ideal guy.

I was actually describing my boyfriend (who by the way wasn't my ideal guy up until a few years ago when I fell in love with him- I used to say guys with dark hair, green eyes and we're tall and muscular were my ideal guy). This woman hadn't heard that part of my conversation and my guess is she wouldn't have said what she said if she had. I honestly would date a man of any race (I have actually) but I love my boyfriend and to me he's ideal in every way.

I was wondering what everyone else thought about this situation. Do you think it's racist to prefer blonde hair (I don't mean that only date a blonde just that its a favourite hair colour on a guy)? Blue eyes?

** I really don't want to offend anyone and am honestly curious on what people think. Please keep this civil though!

I think people play fast and loose with the words "racist" and "racism". People tend to self-segregate because the majority of people are only comfortable with what they know and that's true of all skin colors. I have always preferred white men (I'm white and I married a white man, although some would call him Jewish because, traditionally that's what he would be called, but he's also Scottish, which is very, very white). But in no way do I believe that people of other races and ethnicities are less than I am or sub-human or anything less than another person created in the image of God and are all beautiful and unique. You're racist when you believe you are better than someone because of their skin color. You're racist when you believe people with a different skin color are subhuman, not as intelligent, not as talented, not as capable as a person of your own skin color. But no, you're not racist to prefer to date/marry/reproduce with your own race.

I don't think preferences have anything to do with racism,  i personally not even remotely attracted to blonde hair or light skin. 
I prefer olive tone, and brunette. 
But then again,  I'm  blonde with fairer toned skin.

No, i don't think preferences are racist. i think race being the only reason you won't be with someone is racist, but that's not at all what you were saying. i think it's fucking weird that she thought it was her place to butt into your conversation over nothing.

Ugh beyond ridiculous! Everyone is allowed have a preference in a partner. I'm generally not very attracted to black or Asian men. My preference is white or maybe Hispanic. Doesn't mean I've anything against men of other races 🙄
