Interfaith relationships?

Question

Would anyone like to share their experiences with interfaith relationships? It's getting kinda serious between me and a nice Muslim man. We are supposed to have a discussion about us after Ramadan (he's cheating a bit and being nocturnal lol). I've known him for a year and religion never really comes up, but I know we can't avoid it if we want to move forward

I'm not sure this will be any help, but I met my husband 7 years ago. He's Muslim and I was theoretically Christian but had not been raised in a particularly religious manner. At the time, he committed to a life with me despite backlash from his family and never once worried about religion because our core values were the same. But then I realised everything I loved about him stemmed from his faith in God, so I independently began to research Islam for my own understanding. A few months later and I decided Islam is actually for me and I became Muslim myself. Not once had he suggested this to me or even asked me about religion. My husband was overjoyed that I came to that discovery myself and it made us even stronger. But I know even if I hadn't have done that, he still would have stayed with me and married me. I would probably have agreed to raising our children Muslim anyway because I knew that his religion made him the kind, loving man he is. I hope you find your way together :)

You dont say what your religion is? I dont think its a problem as long as your both upfront about what it means to you. I am catholic and my husband is atheist i dont force catholicism onto him but we had a catholic wedding and my daughter is being raised as catholic (goes to a faith school) he doesnt care as long as i dont try to make him go to church! He does cringe when my daughter sings or talks about god / jesus though! 😂😂😂. Good luck xxx

I'm Muslim married to an catholic man. It's not easy and won't be easy but if you can be true to each other it can work. I wouldn't expect much acceptance from his side of the family or at least until they warm up to it. Good luck!!

I have no faith, my husband is LDS (Mormon), non active, which means he doesn't attend church regularly, but does believe in the book of Mormon and in his church. We respect each others views and don't try to force anything on the other. I ask questions and we have discussions about his faith as well as my lack of faith. I've been to his church and support him in his faith. I serve missionaries dinner and listen to their messages. We have both agreed that we will support our children in any faith they choose to follow, and will attend events in support of them. The biggest thing in interreligious relationships is respect, understanding and agreement for future children's faith. My husband's and I have had zero issues surrounding religion after 5 years of marriage and years of being together before that. For those who's partner doesn't believe in their God, they need to understand and realize that faith is not something you can learn, it's something you feel and believe in down to your core. It's never something that should be forced. Fake faith is worse than no faith at all (which isn't even a bad thing).

My husband and I are interfaith so to speak and we have an amazing relationship. By that I mean that I believe in god and he believes in strictly science (no god, no afterlife). The key is to respect and honor the other persons beliefs. Communication and respect are key, you need to know how that's going to work, what he expects of you as part of his beliefs and what you need from him. Best of luck to you, glad you are happy.

I have no faith and my husband is a Christian, although as time goes I've noticed his faith has waivered, mainly because of his job and the things he sees. But we've never had an issue. We've definitely discussed why we believe what we do and it's always been just a calm conversation. The key is mutual respect for each other's beliefs. It sounds like you're both pretty understanding and accepting people. Some people just can't get past that others don't believe the same things they do and therefore it makes having a relationship hard.
