Newborn on Vacation?

I'm due July 23rd , (yes I am aware that I can go in later ) & I have a family vacay scheduled for Aug 16-19 to Hampton beach . We have a 5 star hotel booked plus my baby will be I his bassinet not on the hotels shests or anything , but that's not my worry . My concern is the beach . I know we won't be on the beach in the sun all day ,& at any moment we can go back to the hotel . My plan for when we are on the beach is to get a beach tent for us to stay in together ( for the shade ) ,& a battery operated fan on us to keep him cool . He will not be outside of the tent except for when we are on our way to the beach ,& setting up, & leaving . So I just wanted to know anyone's opinion. I think that I am taking very good precautions& he will be Okkayy . What do you think ? I will also be talking to my dr about it next Thursday .

I say go! And ignore the nay sayers. They aren't your doctor or your pediatrician. I made the trip home with my newborn several times after giving birth (5 hour drive one way) and he always did great. Slept the entire way and gave me a nice little break from being a slave to the boob. And then of course he ate like crazy when we would arrive. Also, two week bed rest?! Haha seriously? How have women become so fragile? We have done this since the beginning of time and supposedly time is supposed to stop any time someone gives birth? Not realistic at all. Take it easy? Yes of course. But you gave birth, you didn't develop a handicap. Listen to your body and trust your instincts. You will know if you are "over doing" andything.  Consult both doctors and enjoy yourself! I'm a little #peanutbutterandjealous if I do say so myself. I'll take the tickets off your hand if you decide against it. (I'm due in July)

1. Are you flying?  Make sure to check the airlines rules as most dot. Allow babies to fly before 6-8 weeks. Most recommend having first shots before flying.

2. Of driving - yikes I wouldn't . Newborns need held often and will scream if not given that body contact. A friend recently did a road trip with her newborn and regretted it as they had to stop every hour and he screamed the last half of each trip.

3. Beach - yes you *can* take them and make sure they are in shade. Please ask the pediatrician about sunscreen! As it is not recommended before 6 months. BUT my worry would be even with baby in shade - newborns don't regulate their temperature well and the heat may be too much. If you go I would highly recommend someone staying in the room with baby at all times. Take shifts.

4. You will totally be recovering from the biggest marathon of your life. You will probably still be bleeding like a stuck pig (sorry but true). I didn't want to venture anywhere far from home before 6 weeks. I just didn't feel human until that point. Can't imagine sun and sand while wearing a giant diaper size pad.

As long as you're feeling well I say go for it!  You'll prob still be bleeding and exhausted, but newborns travel well!  You'll know after baby comes if you feel up for it!

We went "glamping" three weeks after my first son was born last year.  My parents rented a cabin in the woods, along a river, and we stayed there.  It was about 3.5 hours from our home, and to be far this cabin was GORGEOUS!  We packed a lot, took our dog too, but honestly our son did great!  (I probably packed to much looking back on it, but I was a first time mom!). Plus we had a bunch of family there, so lots of help with our new baby!

Just recommend to sit down, make lists of what you need or think you need.  It's your baby, if you feel comfortable taking him on vacation, you have help, etc. then do it!  We actually have a family friend that is a travel agent, and she and her family have taken their grandson on a ton of vacations (including to the Bahamas and other places outside the US) when he was a few months old!  It's possible, preparation and help are key!

If it were me I wouldn't go, if your baby comes late that's into august and you don't want to take your baby around people until 6-8 week shots. When your baby is born, it's born with no functioning immune system. Plus if you get stitches or anything, you won't be mobile that quick. My doula said, 2 weeks in bed and then 2 weeks in Pjs.

I went on vacation after my first 2 kids both of them early July baby's and they were fine 3 weeks old with my oldest and just about 3 weeks old with my second oldest. My pediatrician had no problem with it so we went and we flew the first time.

When I was at my newborn care class I asked about going to the beach/pool because I normally love being by the pool all summer. The lady said it was perfectly fine just keep the baby in the shade and if you put sunscreen on him/her wash it off right when you go in. She also said you can dampen one of those Muslin baby blankets and wring it out and put that on the baby to keep him/her cool.

I wouldn't do it.. you'll still be healing and you and baby need to rest not traveling and setting up/taking down umbrellas &beach supplies, I'm just saying ..it would likely be harder and more draining than it sounds

Honestly you will need to wait until you know how baby is doing with weight gain, etc. most have frequent weight checks the first 4-8 weeks.
