American dream being that everyone has the same opportunities and through hard work and determination you can be as successful as you want to be

I was born and raised in Romania. LEGALLY relocated to the U.S. at the age of 15.
Finished school. Finished collage. Degrees in computer science. Stayed home and got a part time job as a bartender as I got more certifications under my belt.
I'm now about to turn 33 and own my own IT business, with over 500 employees under me.
Had I stayed in Romania, none of this would have been possible.
Yes, the American dream is real and achievable, if u work hard for it.

Yes. Because my dad did it.

Moved the to US from Mexico at 17. Supported his brother, 2 sisters, and mom. Worked 2 jobs while being a full time undergrad student, got into med school (and got loans on his own), and is now a surgeon.

I'm not saying it's easy. But yeah, I definitely believe in it. My dad is my biggest role model.

For most of people, no. We know quite well that poverty is systematic. We know, or we should know, that even though a lot of poor people work hard everyday, work second and third shifts, get degrees, very few will get out of poverty. We know that poverty set most people up to failure.

Only because a hundred of a million poor people got rich, it doesnt mean its only a matter of "working hard".

Yes. 100% believe in it. I think some people may have a headstart being born into different circumstances, more encouraging or involved parents, etc. But anyone can do/be anything they want. Anyone can make a life in the US. Anyone can become wealthy. Some people may have to work harder to get to a postion someone else may have been born into, but it is possible for anyone to get there.

A version of the American dream I see in the media is a good career. College graduate. Husband and wife. Two kids. Picket fence house and Church on Sundays.

Not that American dream.

But freedom, independence, being your own person, HELL YES. Coming to this country and finding what it means to be you is really important.

Yep. Set a high goal and work towards it. Law of attraction. Anyway can get there, depends on your mindset and how hard you want to work. Sadly, many people just feel they're entitled

No. Working hard doesn't mean you'll be rich. There are people on this app who don't even think fast food employees should make a living wage, and food service employees work like dogs.

I definitely think its situational. Different people face different hard ships and others kinda get their dreams handed to them on a silver platter. But I definitely don't consider it an impossible thing, just some have to work a little harder I guess.

I'm struggling right now, caught up in court systems and it seems not matter what I try to do to catch up there's always something waiting to pop up on me, but I refuse to allow myself to fall victim to circumstance, so the beliefs of the "American dream" is what keeps me going. So for me yes I believe in it.

But I definitely understand why some may disagree. I just don't allow shot to get me down for long. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤗
