If you and you the father of your baby to be are not together, which last name would you go with for the baby?

It would depend on my relationship with the father. If I knew he was going to be active in the child's life then I'd give it his last name, if I knew he was going to run off and never speak to me again and have nothing to do with the child then I'd do my last name.

I agree with everyone else, if he will be active in the baby's life, then it can have his, but if not the baby will get mine!

It depends. Like if my boyfriend and I broke up our son will still have his last name. Because I know he's going to be in his life and be a good dad. If he wasn't then he'd probably have my last name or at least be hyphenated

Hyphen the last name and I was married but he was an ass and I had a little sense through the pain. And named her both, years down the road I finally saw a rainbow when he cheated I bounced (religious family). I was able to drop his name because schools would prefer to use one name anyway and so did she. Now she's in 7th grade and everyone but her birth certificate has forgotten what's his name ??😌

Also seek sole custody when you can you don't have it unless you do legally.

I told my husband before we got married that if we got pregnant before marriage the baby would have my name (would hyphen it if we got married)

I hyphenated with my daughter and got married later and hyphenated my name. I always wanted to share a last name with her. Her name is long but she loves her last name bc we're both in it.

I agree it depends, to some extent, on your relationship with the father and how active he will be.  I'm assuming you will be the primary caregiver? If that's the case, I would either go with my own last name or hyphenate. I know most moms who haven't taken their husband/partner's last name get questioned as to their relationship to the child all the time (ie doctors offices, schools etc). I think due to societal norms, it's just easier if you share your last name with your child.

I knew i would be raising my son solo. I chose my last name.  His father convinced me to put his last name as the middle name....
