How does a courthouse marriage work? Is it permanent or temporary? Can anyone that's been courthouse married explain to me how it works ?

Temporary? I've never heard of a temporary marriage. My husband and I went to fill out our info,schedule a time with the judge, got married, went back to pick up our paperwork. Still married two yrs later.

What do you mean by "permanent"? If by permanent, you mean legally binding then yeah.

A courthouse marriage is permanent. It is basically just the legally required stuff without all the fluff of a big wedding. Depending on where you are located the requirements are different, you may need witnesses, an appointment, etc.

In Britain you get a mini ceremony and a proper marriage without drawing attention to yourself/spending a fortune.

You apply for the license then wait whatever period you're required by your county. My county I remember as 24 hours. Then go back and an officiant will marry you. Easy peasy.

I've got married at he courthouse 6 years ago. Best wedding I've ever been too 😉

It's a legally binding contract like any other marriage...

We did it and it took about 20 mins and $20 to take a number, sign the forms, speak with a representative to prove the marriage was in good faith, and then exchange a few words in another room. Easy peasy.
