Advice with story: do not mess around with a fever
I posted a few days ago asking if I should go to urgent care for my rapidly rising fever. For those of you who did not see it, I woke up around 9:00am feeling really sick out of nowhere. I took my temperature, was 98.8 degrees. So I took a nap.
Woke up two hours later, it was 99.2 degrees. So, I thought maybe it was from sleeping and tried to just relax. Over the course of the next hour it got to 100.2 so I took two Tylenol and a cold bath, my temp rose again to 100.7. I didn't want to risk harm to my baby, I'm 28 weeks, so I went in to the urgent care, they wouldn't see me because I'm pregnant and sent me to the er.
When I got there my heart rate was 134 beats per minute and my temp had risen again to 101.3
I didn't have any signs or symptoms but we learn that I have a bladder infection. At this point they decide to listen to the baby, couldn't find her with the Doppler. Wasn't anything new, I have an anterior placenta. I explained this to the doctor, she orders an ultrasound.
They dig around on my belly for a while, the doctor tells me there's no heart beat. I freak out of course. How can this happen? We were just seen yesterday and baby was fine.
So she orders a more detailed ultrasound, while I explain to her that I am having a full blown panic attack and I nerd help. She told me I'm fine and to relax.
So I call my boyfriend and tell him we may have lost our little girl, and I need him to come to me. We get the next ultrasound. the tech isn't suppose to tell you anything at all but I begged him to let me know if the baby had a heart beat. Within seconds he turns the monitor to me and points out my baby's perfectly obvious heart beat, we both start sobbing in relief. Thank god!
Her heart is a little fast due to mine being fast, but she otherwise looks fine.
At this point they decide to transfer me to a bigger hospital about an hour away. We get there and they immediately admit me, hook up an iv, and draw blood for testing. Baby is also being monitored by a band on my belly.
My heart rate is now 139 beats per minute, and they decide to keep us overnight. Still was waiting for the results of the blood draw.
I ended up being in the hospital another two days, got nine iv bags, three antibiotic iv drips, and diagnosed with Sepsis.
But, we are now on the mend and on our way home!! My baby is okay and I'm okay, just please take a fever that rapidly rises seriously ladies.
