What was your recovery like?

FTM here. 33 weeks and getting nervous about giving birth. I'm not sure if I'll be having a c section or not yet (low lying placenta) so all recovery stories are appreciated! What was it like in the hospital after giving birth? How long did it take until you felt fully recovered?

Had a natural (pain free), 3 hour birth with my first. Had an episiotomy (ugh) with 3 stitches. Was up walking an hour later. Used the witch hazel pads and dermoplast routinely for a week, bled for about 6 weeks, and had no issues. Biggest complaint was just the fatigue for a week or so afterwards.

I had a vaginal birth with fentanyl.  I ended up with a 2nd degree tear. The worst part for me was the bowel movements for a couple of days. They did give me a pain reliever and a stool softener though which definitely helped.

I had a vaginal birth, with an epidural. I was fortunate and did not tear, so honestly recovery was ok.

What nobody warned me about, though, was the ITCHING. Holy cow, my vagina itched so bad while the skin repaired itself and shrunk back to normal. It was like 3 or 4 days of no sleep or comfort. I tried everything, including ice packs and the numbing spray they give you. Ice packs helped the most.

Besides the awful itching from Hell, it wasn't as bad as I thought. Pain was manageable, blood was gross but temporary. :)

I had a drug free natural birth with a snip and stitched and was walking, albeit slowly, almost immediately afterwards. I was sore for a week but was managable. Just tired

After c-section, it took over a month to feel myself again.  After VBAC, I felt perfectly fine hours later
