Sending out birth announcements?

Question

How do you guys feel about sending out a PHYSICAL birth announcement. As in- you go to vistaprint or shutterfly, upload pictures and information, pay to have them printed out and sent to you and then you send them out to all your friends and family? 
Everyone is EXPECTING my husband and I do to this and to also PAY even more money to announce it in the newspaper of our home town (we live 2 hours away now in a different state 🤦🏻‍♀️) and I just can't help but feel like that's wasteful!! 
It's a waste of my time and money and it's a harmful to the environment as well. 
A Facebook or email announcement seems fine to me. 
I don't really care if people know I had a baby or not or what they look like or weigh 🤷🏻‍♀️😛
Why does society (and other mothers) feel the need to put all this pressure on new parents to do things a certain way? Or to have a newborn photo shoot and then pay even more money to send those pictures to people. Babies are expensive enough as it is and they're exhausting! Where do people expect new parents to find the time?? Ugh 🤷🏻‍♀️ lol

This must be an American idea. In the UK we usually just send a wee picture message to let people know the baby has arrived. Cheap, simple and quick!

I think its your child, your family, your life, and you can decide to do what you WANT. Not what's expected of you. If anyone makes a fuzz their priorities are definitely not in line with yours. I support living a unique and unapologetic lifestyle so long as it serves you well.

It's not necessary. Post a photo on Facebook and keep it moving. And don't get professional new born photos done, lay a cute blanket on the bed, surrounded it by stuffed animals, put your baby in the middle, take photos on your phone then go to Costco to get them printed out. Kids are way too expensive for us to spend money on unnecessary things.

We did but we also have a lot of family that live all over and don't use social media. Also she was our rainbow baby after 4 losses and 3&12 years of fertility treatments, so I wanted to do all the "new mom things". I made them online ahead of time, and added the photo after she was born. I ordered them from the hospital and they arrived a couple days after we got home. I mail out holiday cards every year so I had people's addresses in a label printing program on my computer anyway.  So it really wasn't too much work, I don't remember how much it cost. 
It sounds like you already have your mind made up against it. If most people in your life have social media there isn't really a need for them. I was doing it partly for myself. :)

I was plannin on designing something on my own to post on FB. I have done all the invitations for my daughters bday, my sons baby shower last week, and I will start doing my wedding invites soon. I did get a $20 credit for tiny prints when I purchased my boppy pillow along with code for shutterfly for a photo book (29.99 value). Don't know if I will use it or not though. Do what makes you happy! You will have a new baby and don't need added stress.

I think sending a birth announcement is beautiful but the only people I've known who have done it WANTED to do it. It's your choice. If you don't want to do it, don't do it.
